When selecting pieces to use for our styling jobs, we have so many options that sometimes it’s hard to narrow down our favourite pieces!
We consider composition, balance and function. Here are a few of our favourite picks:
Florals + Greenery
We always start our base with what type of greenery we want to display. Using greenery and florals is a great way to ground all of your other coffee table accessories together. Orchids are always a lovely classic statement and they can offer height to your display. Fiddle leaves are a fantastic vibrant leaf and can really fill out a vase. We also like using low bearing greenery to add to low vases.
Coffee Table Books
Keep it simple! You can't go wrong with a good stack of coffee table books displayed with your choice of florals and greenery. Coffee table books look great on a rectangular or square coffee tables and placed in a grid. You can stack the books at different heights to fill out the surface. Select books in the same colours with small variations in sizing. If you have a round coffee table place your book stack on an angle or slightly off from the centre of the table.
It's always great to see your personal collectables out on show for you and your guests to enjoy. If you like to display your items we advise you to select a feature statement piece rather than lots of small trinkets, that can sometimes look too busy and cluttered on your surface. Keep it simple but impactful. We commonly use coral ornaments, candles, ceramic ginger jars and one of a kind magnify glass or calligraphy brushes to create unique displays.
Remember to keep things in groupings and the general rule of thumb is to use uneven numbers such as groups of 3 and 5. For example your group of 3 may consist of a stack of books, (one) a vase with flowers (two) and a coral ornament (three). That’s a perfect grouping! You'll also want to ensure there are different heights within your pieces as this will create an extra dimension of interest to your coffee table.
Use a Tray
Trays or placemats are great to use as they add an extra layer to your table and it can hold your smaller ornaments such as candles and coasters. You can select different tray finishes such as an opposing colour or texture to your coffee table which will make your objects stand out. They're also great to use on coffee tables that have shelves below the top surface. Enjoy arranging your coffee table pieces, remembering to keep it simple but significant and always add a pop of greenery or some florals- you'll be sure to receive compliments the next time you have guests over.
